La Escena de la firma de la Constitución de los Estados Unidos es una pintura al óleo realizada por Christy, describiendo la firma de la Constitución en la Convención Constitucional que se llevó a cabo en Filadelfia entre el 14 de mayo y el 17 de septiembre de 1787, para resolver los problemas de gobierno de Estados Unidos, que había estado funcionando conforme a los Artículos de la Confederación después de su independencia de Gran Bretaña. George Washington, quien preside la Convención, es la figura que aparece en pie sobre el estrado. Las figuras centrales son Alexander Hamilton y Benjamin Franklin.

Stars and Stripes Forever es una marcha patriótica Americana, considerada la obra cumbre del compositor John Philip Sousa. A finales del año 1896, mientras Sousa y su mujer disfrutaban de unas esperadas vacaciones en Europa, recibieron la triste noticia de que el gerente de su banda, David Blakely, había fallecido repentinamente. Se encontraban viajando en un ferry, y el propio Sousa cuenta que fue entonces cuando compuso la marcha en su cabeza, la cual transcribió al papel a su regreso a América.
“Here came one of the most vivid incidents of my career. As the vessel (the Teutonic) steamed out of the harbor
I was pacing on the deck, absorbed in thoughts of my manager's death and the many duties and decisions which awaited me in New York. Suddenly, I began to sense a rhythmic beat of a band playing within my brain. Throughout the whole tense voyage, that imaginary band continued to unfold the same themes, echoing and re-echoing the most distinct melody. I did not transfer a note of that music to paper while I was on the steamer,
but when we reached shore, I set down the measures that my brain-band had been playing for me, and not a note of it has ever changed." (Sousa)
